UNWTO: Azerbaijan’s profit from tourism in 2012 grew by 89% up to $2.4 million

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) included Azerbaijan in Top 5 on the growth of tourist inflow in percentage ratio.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism informs that in its UNWTO Tourism Highlights 2013 edition the UNWTO has published data on changes in European tourism, including the CIS countries for 2012 compared to 2011.

"According to UNWTO estimates, the CIS countries are leading in the growth of tourist inflow. So, the 1st place on the growth of tourist inflow as a percentage belongs to Georgia with index of +36%, 2nd place to Azerbaijan (+27%), the 3rd to Moldova (19%), the 4rth to Andorra (+15%), and 5th to Russia (+13%)," the edition says.

The publication also provides information about the profits from the tourism industry. So, if in 2011 Azerbaijan earned a profit of $1.287 million from tourism and in 2012 profits rose by 89% up to $2.4 million. At that, profit of Georgia from tourism in 2012 reached $1.4 million, Moldova - $213 million, and Russia - $11.187 million.
