The event discussed the role of environmentally friendly initiatives and financial mechanisms in realizing sustainable trade and investment opportunities in African countries, as well as the contributions of partner countries to this process.
The Export and Investment Promotion Agency - AZPROMO represented Azerbaijan at the "Sustainable Trade in Africa" event, organized by the UAE Trade Center and the African Export-Import Bank as part of COP29.
In the opening remarks, Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President of the African Export-Import Bank, and Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, highlighted the importance of regional trade integration for sustainable development and emphasized the significance of ongoing initiatives in this direction.
Yusif Abdullayev, Executive Director of AZPROMO, provided insights into Azerbaijan's investment climate and the favorable business environment created for foreign investors in special economic zones. He also discussed Azerbaijan’s goals in green energy, focusing on investments in renewable energy projects and efforts to combat climate change.
Other speakers included Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA), and Mohammed Saeed Sultan Alnuaimi, UAE’s Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Environment.
The event continued with panel sessions titled "Promoting Africa’s Special Economic Zones: Towards Green Growth and Innovation" and "Enabling Sustainable Development: Building Bridges Between Africa and Azerbaijan for the UAE-Africa Economic Corridor."
